Overwhelmed and Scared - Need Advice

I have been in a very fortunate position for my family to have never had to deal with anything like this before. Now this year I have had one family member ( very close to me ) diagnosed with testicular cancer and is now going through chemotherapy and another who might now have skin cancer. I'm only young and don't know what to do or say, I just feel so sad and scared all the time, I know that they'll both be fine and I keep telling myself that but I just think the worst constantly. Does anyone have any advice. Thank you.

  • Hello el2001

I'm sorry to hear that you have a family member who is going through treatment for testicular cancer at the moment and another who may have skin cancer. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious.

Whilst your relative may be going through a difficult time at the moment with chemotherapy, it might help you to know that survival for testicular cancer is very high. Nearly all men survive their disease. Try to keep that positive information in your mind to draw on when you feel worried and take things a day at a time. looking too far ahead can lead to more anxiety.

Although this is written from a patient's perspective, you may find it helpful to have a look at the information on our website about coping emotionally with cancer

We know that it can help to talk to someone at times like this and I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any support and reassurance that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
