very hard,sore pea sized lump

i'm 17 and have recently noticed a very visible lump on my inner labia, it's very sore and sensitive even when not touched, i doubt it's an ingrown hair follicle as no hair grows where it is, im not sexually active, so im very confused as to what this is. if it gets worse i'm going to contact my gp- any recommendations as what to do please ,it would be very appreciated xx

  • Hi Smiley,

You must be feeling really anxious. Have you spoken to any family members, so you have support?

Generally, I think the biggest favour we can all do ourselves is feeling empowered to seek medical advice. Ring your GP and book that appointment. Any lumps and bumps that make you feel anxious should be looked at.

Depending on where is it, it might be something called a Batholin's cyst (where fluid builds) or even an angry epidermoid cyst. You won't know unless someone takes a look.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

We would always encourage people to go to a GP to get any symptoms checked out as it's not possible for anyone to say what this may be without being examined. GPs see many people with these sort of lumps, and at your age it would be highly unlikely for this to be connected with cancer.

It's common to get blocked sebaceous glands in this area or Bartholins cysts (more about this  here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/bartholins-cyst/  ) - neither of these are connected with cancer and if they get infected can become painful , sometimes needing antibiotics.

So do make an appointment and I hope things start to settle down soon for you

    All the best

    Wanda
