  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling worried about your health.

The screening programme is all about identifying any abnormal cells, treating them and then monitoring them until they go back to normal. Your smear test showed High risk changes and when you have the colposcopy they will be able to look at your cervix in much greater detail and if necessary to take some biopsies to confirm the smear test results.

We have such a fantastic screening programme in this country. So many women are successfully  treated in colposcopy clinics. The aim is all about prevention. The HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is a very common virus with 80% of the population affected with it at some point in their life. It is the virus that is responsible for changes in the cells.

Normally it is your own immunity that helps get on top of the virus. It does help to clear the virus if you don't smoke.  Jo's Trust has some commonly asked questions about the HPV virus which you can read about here

It is easy to think that the different pains that you are experiencing may all be connected but there maybe a completely different reason so try not to overthink it all.

We can't diagnose anyone on this forum but do talk through the pains that you are experiencing with your GP. They may suggest an x-ray on your hips to see if they can find out why you are getting the grinding pain in your hip. The NHS has produced some information about questions to ask your doctor and how to get the most from your appointment which you can see here

I do hope that it all goes well for you.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
