Pneumonia and brain tumour

My father is currently in hospice to releive excess fluid and constipation. He has now developed pneumonia and no antibiotics are working to clear it. He has a very chesty cough but unable to bring anything up and is generally very weak and poorly.

Will the infection ever clear? Will the antibiotics kick in?  Main question is can he survive this or will he die from pneumonia complications?

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your father, this must be a difficult time for the family.

Unfortunately there is no way in knowing how this infection will affect your fathers situation. Some people will overcome infection whilst others sadly will not. Sometimes it is a matter of sitting tight and taking each days as it comes, which can be an anxious and unsettling time.

I think it would be best to talk to the nurses and doctors directly looking after him in the hospice to find out more and see what their thoughts are.

Please get back fi you need to, or if you prefer give one of the nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday-Friday 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
