Abnormal bleeding

Hi,

I've been experiencing abnormal bleeding throughout the whole of November. I've been to my gp for a smear but obviously I was bleeding far too heavy for the doctor and nurse to complete it. I've never had one before. I've been given a new appointment for later this week but the bleeding won't stop whatsoever. I'm so concerned and stressed out it's something more. I'm spending so much time researching what my issue could be and I end up coming to the worst conclusion. My question is tho, if my bleeding doesn't stop for them to do a smear what happens next?

Any help or advice or experience will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the concern that it is causing you.

There are lots of different reasons for abnormal bleeding and most of the reasons won't  be as serious as cancer. The NHS have written some information about why abnormal bleeding can happen which you might find helpful to look at here

Try not to self diagnose yourself with the internet as it is so general and rarely helps. I am sure that if you are still bleeding when you go back to your GP they will discuss other options to help find out why you are bleeding which may include an ultrasound.

Try not to over think it all if you can, keep yourself busy to take your mind off it all.

    Take Care,

    Catherine
