Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Hello,

My dad is 71. Fit and healthy with a PSA of 6. They have done an MRI and said they found some abnormalities. He is now having a biopsy. How likely is it that this will be cancerous. I am guessing they have found something of concern.
any thoughts anyone?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear your dad is under investigation for prostate cancer and appreciate this must be a worrying time.

It seems the MRI scan has shown up some abnormalities within the prostate gland but only the biopsy will be able to confirm what these are or indeed if cancer cells are present.

Unfortunately until the results are back no one is going to be able to say for sure if this is cancer or not. Not everyone who has a prostate biopsy goes on to be diagnosed with a cancer but at this point in time there is no way of knowing what the results will show.

Waiting and not knowing can be unsettling for everyone involved but keeping busy and your mind on other things can be helpful at times like this.

Do get back if you have more questions and you are also welcome to call the nurse helpline if you prefer on 0808 800 4040, Mon-Fri 9-5.

Wishing your dad all the best

    Take care

    Naomi
