6 months post natal and still bleeding

Hi I had a baby 6 months Ago and have basically been bleeding since day 1! My gp as tried changing my pill but still no change Iam now experiencing very painful cramps and pain in my lower abdomen bak and top of my legs it becomes really painful to have a bowel movement to and this also makes the bleeding worse when I do have a bowel movement which becomes painful .. I'm worried sick as I've had abnormal smears in the past also .. the gp has booked me in tommorow for swabs and blood tests .. can anyone relate to any of my problems and know why?? Thank u

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the bleeding and other symptoms you are experiencing and appreciate they must be a worry for you.

It is good however that your GP is now arranging some swabs and blood tests to try and figure out what the cause might be.

Unfortunately there can be many reasons for abnormal bleeding and it can take time and a series of test to work out what might be the matter. I am sure if the bloods and swabs don't give any more clues the doctor will arrange more tests that may lead them closer to some answers.

You mention abnormal cervical screening results in the past but I assume you are up to date with these and as long as you have attended any follow up appointments then you shouldn't be at any greater risk. Cervical screening is all about preventing cervical cancer by picking up abnormality where it can be monitored or treated until the cervix returns to normal.

If you are not due for cervical screening then any samples taken earlier would be rejected by the lab. However whilst the GP or nurse takes some swabs they are also able to take a good look at the cervix and if they were to notice anything unusual they could refer you to colposcopy for further assessment, so try not to worry about this.

Whilst it can sometimes be good to hear other peoples stories or experiences of symptoms it is important to remember that everyone is different and it really is impossible to compare yourself to someone else.

I hope you know more soon and things start to settle for you.

    Take care

    Naomi
