Hello and thanks for your post,
I am sorry to hear that your mom had a colonoscopy. I can understand that waiting for the results can be stressful.
Getting the results back can take 2-3 three weeks depending on the work load of the pathologists (doctor who looks at the biopsy under a microscope) and there are regional variations on waiting times up and down the country.
If your mom has not heard after a couple of weeks then encourage her to get in touch with her GP. The hospital will have written to them with her results. They would need to get the results back before they organise the scan if it is needed.
I can understand how frustrating and difficult this can be. Try and encourage your mom to keep busy and her mind on other things whilst she is waiting.
If you or your mom want to ring to talk about any of this at any stage then you are both more then welcome to do so. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Best Wishes,
Catherine
