Lletz treatment

Hello all..

I'm due to go in for lletz treatment in a couple of weeks. I'm terrified of needles so really getting worked up about having injection. Is there anything I can have or be given to ease anxious otherwise I won't be able to go through with it. (I normally have injection or blood test area numbed with cream an hour before)

  • Hello, I had my Lletz treatment on the 5/11/2021. I am needle phobic so I had my procedure done under general anaesthesia, the only needle I had was one in my hand just before they gave me the oxygen mask. They didn't give me time to panic about the needle it was done so quickly. I'm sure if you phone the ward they may be able to talk to you about what they can do to help.
I would recommend possibly going under general for this procedure if you are needle phobic , I hope this helps and your treatment goes well. Xx

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Do get in touch with the hospital department directly and explain. There may be options to have it under a general anaesthetic, but this might need to be rebooked in.

Other options include some mild oral tablet sedation before having a cannula put in.

I hope that it goes well for you,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

    Hi Tracey,

Like you I am terrified of needles. I personally faint or get extremely dizzy.

I had my lletz treatment on Monday, and I didnt even know when he administered the anaesthetic, I couldn't feel a thing(not sure if this will ease your concerns). I did prewarn him that I am really no good with needles, but it might be worth speaking to the clinic before you go to see what your options are.

Perhaps it will calm anxieties if you know what arrangements they can make to ensure you have the most comfortable experience. I asked for the screen to be turned away this time so there was no chance of me seeing any of it which definitely helped as I wasn't forced to keep my head turned to the side and could relax much more. The anaesthetic contains a small amount of adrenaline which does increase your heart rate but if you are aware of this beforehand it's much easier, and will be less likely to cause further anxieties.

I wish you all the best for your appointment x

  • Hi im new here, last year i had been told i had low grade dyskaryosis and cin 1 so had another smear in a year. This one came back high grade dyskaryosis, moderate changes. I went for a colposcopy where they took biopsies, result inadequate (what does that mean?) I have Lletz treatment under general anesthetic on 24th June. Im terrified. What will they find? Will i recover easily? What do others think?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I have popped on here because the post you have replied to has not posted since November last year, so you may not get a reply from them.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation and I can appreciate that this must be a worrying time for you.

An inadequate result usually means that not enough tissue was taken for the biopsy to give a result, but to be sure do check this out with the team caring for you.

Waiting for treatment is a worry but please be reassured that this going to happen and does not mean you necessarily have cancer. In fact I think it is safe to say that most women in this situation will find out that they don't have cancer.

Your recovery should be quite quick, you may go home the same day (depending on what time of day you were treated) or stay over night in hospital. You may find you bleed and may have some pain, so you will be advised about this.  We have more information about this on our website, click on the section entitled LLETZ  to see it here

I hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
