LLETZ/Cone Biopsy recovery with Endometriosis

Has anyone suffering with a Endometriosis had a LLETZ or Cone Biopsy?

I'm a week post procedure and still suffering with bleeding & intense abdominal pain/cramping. My pain was terrible coming around from the GA and was advised that it could be due to my Endometriosis and wondering if recovery is similarly affected..

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you have pain and bleeding after having a LLETZ procedure and core biopsy a week ago. I am afraid that I cannot tell you if what you are experiencing is anything to do with the endometriosis that you have. We are not experts in endometriosis and I cannot see any research or studies that have looked into this. However, I have read that this could depend on where the endometriosis is, for example if it affects your cervix then this could make surgery more painful.

However, pain and bleeding are common side effects of this type of surgery for many women. But the pain should be getting better after a few days but bleeding can take up to 4 weeks to stop. I think it is important to know that if the pain gets worse and the bleeding gets heavier and if a discharge appears that you do seek medical advice as this might indicate you have an infection. You could let your GP or out of hours call NHS 111 and let them know.

You might also want to contact another charity called Endometriosis UK and ask them, they have a freephone helpline, you can see their website here     Also Jo's Trust, a cervical cancer charity, has information on a blog about having endometriosis and having cervical screening, you might want to see this here

I hope you will be okay and that this has been of some help.

    Take care,

    Caroline
