5 months after Lumpectomy, pain and tenderness

Hi

I had 2 lumpectomys in April and June of this year, all healed ok. The past couple of weeks when in bed felt sore when trying to turn over and put any weight on my arm on that side and still using a little v pillow so as not to put pressure on the area as seems a bit tender. Also the occasional stabbing pain which I've read is normal. Wondering if I could have pulled something? Is this normal, maybe I should call my nurse? Anyone else had the same?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

It can take a few months for everything to settle down after having two lumpectomies. The stabbing pain your are feeling might be due to the nerves trying to repair themselves. It will subside but people do say that it's not unusual to experience some aches and stabbing pains for up to a year or so.

There is some more information about breast pain after surgery from the Breast Cancer Now website here.

It's always a good idea to discuss your symptoms with your breast care nurse and hopefully they can advise you further.

Hopefully people will come along and share their experiences with you, as support like this can be invaluable. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
