I am sorry to hear how painful and uncomfortable you have been having your cervical screening check ups and colposcopy appointments.

It is good to hear they will now carry out the Lletz procedure under general anaesthetic so hopefully that'll make things alot easier and less stressful for you.

The important thing to remember about the screening programme is that is all about preventing cancer by picking up abnormality that can then either be monitored or treated until it returns to normal.

Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasm CIN is one of the types of abnormality that occurs in the cervix and as you say CIN 1 is mild, CIN 2 moderate and CIN3 severe but all of these are considered pre cancerous changes not cancer and CIN 2 and 3 are removed to prevent them from turning into cancer at a later date. Even when CIN does turn into cancer it often takes many years to happen (10+) so as long as people with a cervix attend for screening the risk of developing cervical cancer is far less likely.

There are many people who find having any type of internal examination uncomfortable and even painful for some so you really aren't alone and it certainly doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. Often there are techniques people can try to make things more comfortable but these don't always work but it is important to always let the doctor or nurse aware of past experiences or if you feel it is too much so they can stop, try a smaller speculum a different position or give creams to try at a different appointment.

Hi, i have had painful smear test, wasn't really bad, but it was very uncomfortable. Had also colposcopy and biopsy. That was extremely painful, colposcopy itself wasn't painful, but biopsy was. Results came back cin3 and gcin. I was meant to have lletz under local anaesthetic  during another colposcopy, but it was very painful when doctor was just trying to get speculum in. She referred me for lletz under general anaesthetic. And im glad i had it done this way. I didn't feel anything, it was just long wait in hospital. I could go home few hours after procedure. Now im still waiting for results, its been 6 weeks now

Oh gosh! 6 weeks? Is that normal waiting time? What is gcin? Sorry for all the questions lol, I haven't actually had a biopsy or anything tested at all, this is just from what the doctor saw during the colposcopy so I'm a bit worried as it could be worse than what the doctor thought she saw . Hope you get your results soon x 

Apparently it's taking a bit longer now, due to covid. I phoned to my gp last week, and they (as usual) don't know anything about results. so i just need to wait. And its a typo, meant to be cgin. Its abnormal cells, just like cin3, but in deeper levels of tissue. Im not going to lie, i rush home from work every day, hoping i will find a letter with results, but still nothing. I keep thinking about it every day, but hoping for best. I think i will call hospital on Monday, to see if the results came back
