Raised white blood count

Hi,

I went for ultrasounds and xrays last year due to finding a swollen  lymph node in my neck  along with dizziness, night sweats and fatigue. It was discovered by the ultrasound that I have a nodule on my thyroid and vit b12 deficiency. no further action to be taken. Fast forward 12 months and I'm feeling worse. More raised nodes in neck, Constant tonsillitis and blurred vision with dizzy spells at least 3x per week, night sweats, skin rash on my back and chest, alight cough, pain in right shin bone, heavy painful periods ( for the last 5months)   breathlessness when walking , loss of appetite, feel sick on occasions and just  generally feeling unwell.  I went back to the doctors. I was given a full blood test and prescribed antibiotics. I called the doctors for my results and the receptionist said I was anaemic due to low red blood cells and I also had high white blood cells but this more than likely the tonsillitis - NFA. I just feel like I'm no further forward and I'm sick of feeling ill ( I'm 37 and my mum at 65 has more energy than me).

shouldn't I be given a repeat blood test to check my white cells now I've completed the antibiotics ?

I know I know stay away from Google but after hearing people's symptoms for leukemia  I have quite a few and for lupus.  Would these have definitely flagged on my bloods if it's in an early stage?

Thanks

  • Hello, I'm so sorry you have been going through this.

Unfortunately I am not able to say what should be happening next as I am not part of the team who have been following you up.  What I can say is that if the Doctor suspected anything sinister it is likely they would have spotted something or discussed it with you already.

You say you have spoken to the receptionist at your doctors surgery about your blood results, but you should contact them and ask for a GP phone call so they can go through your results with you. Whilst speaking to them do let them know about your concerns about your ongoing symptoms, and your worries about cancer to help them understand what you are thinking.

As you say Google isn't a great place to look, as it's not a Doctor who can properly assess you, so do try and not look your symptoms up.

Take care, and hopefully you will know more about what is going on soon.

    Sarah.
