Nearly a year and still nothing

Hi. I am 25 i a mother of 2. This is a long one i am sorry.

(I am 24) July 2020 i was diagnosed with a very bad case of BV (the first time i have ever had BV), i had antibiotics and it cleared up and all seemed find.

December 2020, started to feel a little pain down below and noticed spotting in my discharge with a simple funky smell to when i had BV. So i orderd some canstan ect and it worked for a while.

January 2021, getting pains and bloating and a lot kore discharge this time even more smelly, so called the gp and the nurse prescribed me 2 weeks worth of antibiotics and it cleared up for around 6 weeks.

March 2021 (i turn 25), i began with the same discharge again but this time watery and extremely smelly. The dicharge is to the point where i have to wear panty linners. Its really embarrassing and the smell is foul. It has stoped me from having sex or feeling good about myself. The nurse gave me another lot of antibiotics. 2 weeks later back again with a vengeance! The same nurse every time at the GP, she sent off swaps for STD's i knew i didnt bave any but i was willing to test for everything to get rid of this horrible stuff. (Rotting fleshy smell). She told me to wait for my results, 2 weeks go by and i ring, it was clear. So i asked her what was i meant to do if it was clear obviously somthing is happening and its not what you tested for, and i am really concerned, she told me not to worry about anything as i am only 25. Told me to come in a week later for another STD swab. So i did.

April 2021, had my second STD swabs. 2 weeks later inhad to ring up the gps again and she said the test was clear again. So i said what am i suppose to do? She told me that i was booked in for my smear at the end of the month so just to wait and see what that shows. Keeping in mind this is my first smear test as i had only just turned 25.  When i had my smear done, the nurse pointed out that my cervix was very inflamed and bled very easily, but then didnt say anything else.

May 2021, the smear came back clear no problems! I was of corsed relieved, but still very concerned about my smelly discharge and pelvic pain. Called the drs again, the nurse got me in the week later and tested me yet again at the end of may for, you guessed it STDs.

June 2021, got my results back ... all clear again after ringing the surgery for my results. I thought to my self shes jot helping ill try some natural remidies at home and see what happens.

August 2021, after trying everything and research and research nothing helped. I go to my doctors one last time before i go away on holiday for 2 weeks, the gp got me in with a gynaecologist first time this has happend, and when i got there the same nurse i have had for over a year not taking any notice had to step in for the doctor because she was off that day.  Im not going to lie i started crying before i entered the nurses room, and before i could say anything she asked how many sexual partners ect... i just blew and cryed my eyes out , i told her no one is taking me seriously, i know my body and somthing is off!!
she proceeded to say that i am inly 25 and it would inly be my hormones of bv oor an std. i said to her i have had this problem for almost 9 months and the inly thing you have done is test me for the same stds 3 times. Iv had to bloods no scans... nothing ! She said she couldnt help and i left. When i got out side my mother was watching the kids in the car as at this point it was covid and not allowed everyone in at once. My mum took one look and me and marched on in and demanding to make a formal complaint she did and she got a number for me to ring to make my complaint. I got home that day to a voice message from the nurse asking how i am and checking up on me and if i need anything to just hive her a ring or come back up to the surgery.

two days after this, i got a phone call telling me i am on the waiting list to see a gyne. Woo i thought this is it , now i can relax.

October 2021, finaly got an appointment, when and say the gyne, she looked at my cervic and told me i have Abnormal cells. Okay now k was confussed i had a smear and they have swabbed abd swabbed me for stds and they didnt see anything?
she booked me in for a scan right away, had the scan ect, i wasnt told anything while i was being scanned or after, she told me the gyne will be in touch within the next 24 hours.
the next day i had a text telling me i have a procedure booked for two days time, laser surgery... no one consulted me about the scan or anything. Straight in for laser. The gyne did say on the first app there would be a laser treatment.. i didnt think this soon. I mean o wss happy to get it all sorted.

24 hours before the procedure they have cancelled mine and many others appointments due to no staffing ( i assumed covid) they sent out emails ect saying we will be booked in asap. I though no problem things happen.

November 2021, roll on 4 weeks, still nothing, nothing about the procedure and nothing about the scan.

im stuck in my own head and worried sick. I have been fobbed off so much thenlast 18 months and i just cant wait any longer.

All in all i have had,

3 STD tests

1 smear

1 scan

is this normal or am i over reacting, is this nothing to worry about? Why are they not communicating with me or listening to what i am saying! I feel like i am being forgotten about because i am 25 , what the nurse said is forever stuck in my head, "you're only 25"

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am so sorry to hear about your situation and the very difficult time that you have been having. I can understand that having eventually had an appointment to see the gynaecologist and then to have it cancelled must have felt like the last straw.

Unfortunately the impact of the pandemic has led to long delays for so many people and I can understand the frustration that you must be feeling.

You could talk this through with your GP and discuss your concerns. It is difficult for me without being involved in your care and not being fully in the picture to know what your next steps should be. If abnormal cells were identified through your smear then the next course of action is normally to be referred to a colposcopy clinic for these cells to be treated.

In the first instance I would start with your GP. Any information from the hospital would have been sent to your GP so hopefully they will be able to advise you on your next steps.

If for any reason this proves difficult then you could contact PALS (Patient Advice and  Liaison Service). They offer advice and support to patients and can investigate why patients are waiting for so long for appointments. You can look at their information here

    Start with your GP first.

Good luck with it all and I do hope that you know more about your situation soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
