Pea sized lump on areola/ nipple?

Hi, I'm 28. I noticed a few weeks ago I had a tiny lump on my nipple. Iv been monitoring it and I'm positive it's grown to a bigger pea sized (so not big, big) just more noticeable. I notice it's kind of pulling my nipple inwards a bit. It's very hard and doesn't move at all..

it's worth mentioning I have had 2 surgery's on my breasts, both for total duct removal.. this was done because I have constant discharge from my nipples. It's milky and Iv had it for nearly 9 years.. neither surgery managed to fix it..

I'm planning to phone GP tomorrow but just looking for any ideas or advice?

thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the problems that you have had over the years with nipple discharge.

The pea sized lump  may be a cyst  but of course it is really only after a breast examination that your doctor will be able to tell you any more. Doctors are trained to assess breasts and look for any worrying signs. As I am sure you are aware that breast cancer at your age is very unusual and there are many other benign (not cancer) conditions that could explain this lump.

Breast Cancer Now have produced some information about benign breast conditions which you can see here

I hope this helps and that you are able to make an appointment soon even if it is just to help put your mind at rest.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
