Coughing blood

Hi,

My dad (84) has advanced lung cancer and is not able to have treatment. Symptom wise he was coughing a small amount of blood and has a hoarse voice.

I was wondering if anyone knows but he ha snow started coughing a lot more blood. Is this an indication of the cancer progressing/getting worse? Is it something that happens close to the end or not necessarily?

He says he feels okay other than that just more tired than usual.thanks so much to anyone that reads

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we can't say why your dad is coughing up more blood than usual as we are not involved in his clinical care. It's possible he may have a lung infection but only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to make an appointment with his GP to get this checked out.

I hope you know more about his situation soon. Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
