I have been referred for a dent in the side of my breast

Hi 

I am only 40 years old and I was referred two weeks ago now for a dent on the side of my left breast which looks like someone has just put fingers on the skin and pressed it in. I only have very small breasts so there isn't a lot of flesh there as only a 32 A cup.

I am now going out of my mind with fear and worry as I still am yet to be seen at the hospital and had a text earlier today to say there is a high volume of referrals and it could take upto 6 weeks now. Although the GP couldn't feel a lump they have referred me on the 2 week symptomatic pathway just to be sure.

I just don't know what to think and didn't think that a dent in the skin could be signs of cancer. Has anyone else been referred due to a dent as mine is visible when my arms are down but not when they are elevated and the skin just above it looks slightly more swollen than the other side. I am very scared and I feel very alone anticipating the worst right now as the waiting is killing me.

    I am sorry to hear you are needing to wait to be seen by the breast clinic and this must be a worry for you.

    Most doctors will refer breast changes to a clinic just to be sure nothing untoward is going on and the appearance or indentation is one change to look out for. However the breasts do often change as we get older so hopefully this won't turn out to be anything too concerning.

    Try not to over think things for now until you are seen but of course if you notice any more changes in the meantime do contact your GP or the breast clinic directly to see if you can be seen any sooner.

    I hope you don't have to wait too long and your mind can be put at ease.

    Hi Naomi I have managed to get a cancellation for this Wednesday at the breast hospital so I am going to it. I will be on the sixth day of my period so I am hoping they can still do the mammogram. My breasts are very small and quite dense so the indentation you can clearly see when I lean forward. I am really worried and scared of what they will find as I don’t think my under wired bras have caused this dent in the side of my left breast so I don’t know what it will be. Feels like the longest wait of my life.
