Brain tumour fear

Hello I am hoping to get some reassurance please. My 10 year old son suffers from visual migraines. He gets the visual distortion lasting minutes (2 at most) no headache after. I've had him to opticians and his eye were fine and all healthy behind the eye. He had no other symptoms. It he reason im anxious is that we sadly lost my mother in law last Christmas to cancer , it was in her lung and brain.
Optician had reassured me these are common and his eyes are healthy and aura type attacks can happen frequently or can go months and not have one. GP will see him next week for a once over.

I just can't help but worry

thank you

  • Hello Bobby55 and thanks for posting

Brain tumours are very rare. And they are less common in children than adults so try if you can not to overly worry about this. Your son has visual migraines which would explain his current symptoms. It's good that you had his eyes checked by the optician and everything was normal. And you mention that you are going to take him to see the GP next week. Hopefully, the GP will be able to reassure you further.

I think when we have lost a family member to cancer it can make us a bit more fearful of cancer. But it may help you know that the majority of people who develop cancer are over the age of 60.

I hope this is of some and that everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
