Lump in my left breast

Hello I found a lump in my breast and its hard to the touch and sometimes its painful, I'm losing weight and can't eat but don't have other symptoms I've been to my GP she checked my breasts and she said it could be hormonal changes and she said if it's getting bigger and doesn't dissappear I have to come back in 6 weeks time and they'll reffer me to breast clinic it's been 2 weeks but my lump is getting bigger any advice please

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the worry you have about a breast lump.  Follow your GP's advice and go back if this does not get better. She told you to give it 6 weeks, but because getting appointments might take longer consider to start getting a date for one a bit earlier, you can always cancel it if you don't need it.

Be reassured that your breast was checked by a doctor so if there was a concern you would have been referred sooner to the breast clinic. I am not sure how old you are but remember that breast cancer is more common in women after the menopause.  That is not to say younger women never get it,  it is just that it is far less common.

You did the right thing to go and see your GP in the first place so do go back if you need to.

I hope you will be okay and that your have support at home if you need it. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
