So worried need a friendly ear

I am 58 and had by last period about 5 years ago.I noticed a small spot of pink discharge on the toilet paper last week.I have had lower back /hip pain not terrible and just thought it was from sleeping on the sofa too often. My dad died 2 months ago from covid and I have been really stressed and my sleep is erratic .I have made an appointment with the doctor but can't get a consultation until the 19th.I have of course been googling and am convinced it's cancer.I don't want to worry my family.I know that  no one can give me a diagnosis but would like to hear from anyone with a similar experience

  • Hi Jules

You've had a very difficult time recently and I’m so sorry you lost your dad. Please don’t google... that’s honestly the first piece of advice anyone would give you here. It just gives worst case scenario for everything and will only serve to fuel fear and anxiety. The first thing is to see the gp, which you have arranged. The doctor will assess you and decide if a referral to gynae is necessary, but please don’t rush to diagnose yourself with cancer before being seen. I had some pretty major post menopausal bleeding and a lot of pain before I ever went to a doctor, and yes, I did have a cancer diagnosis, but that’s by no means the same for everyone. Try not to let bad thoughts run away with themselves at this stage. it’s way too early to know what might be causing this. x

  • Hi Minska thanks for replying. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. How are you ?

  • Hi Jules

I’m fine thank you. I’m conscious now that I’ve replied in the ask the nurses section, so it may be that they will have another answer for you. xx

  • I wasn't sure where to post not very good on forums -wishing you the best xx

  • Thank you so much. I hope you have a non serious answer to your issues soon. xx

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to hear about the recent loss of your dad, this must be a difficult time for you.

Hopefully some other people who have gone through similar will share there stories with you but do remember everyone is different and the outcomes may not be the same for you.

As I am sure you are aware symptoms can be caused by an array of different things and most will settle after a short while and won't be the result of anything as serious as cancer.

It is good to hear you have made an appointment with your GP and I wouldn't worry too much about needing to wait a week to be seen. If of course the symptoms worsten in that time or you notice more bleeding then you could call the surgery up to see if you can be seen more urgently.

Hopefully there will be a simple reason for these ailments but the doctor will be able to assess you and arrange more tests as needed to find out more.

I hope everything will be okay for you but do get back if you need to. Our number is 0808 800 4040 week days 9-5 if you would prefer to call.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
