Concern over long-term rash

Hi,

I was just wondering if it's possible that a rash I've had on my breast for about four months could be cancer. I don't know if it's possible to say on here but I just wondered if cancer rashes usually progress in that time.

I have a small roundish rash that developed about 4 months ago on the outer edge of my breast and it's generally remained unchanged - though in the last couple of weeks it's got redder and it looks like another one the same is starting next to it. 

I've had various creams from the doctors, steroids and emollients, which haven't helped. And I went to the breast clinic at the hospital who said it looked like a skin issue, and wasn't to do with the breast tissue.

Despite that I'm still worried it could be cancer but don't know if I'm being silly as articles online seem to suggest breast cancer that starts as a rash tends to get worse quickly whereas this has only got a little worse after a few months. 

If you have any advice it would be much appreciated.

    I am sorry to hear about your rash and I can imagine that it must be quite frustrating not knowing the cause.

    It does sound like you have been assessed at the breast clinic and they seem fairly sure that the rash is not related to a breast cancer. They are experienced at examining and diagnosing breasts and have guidelines on what to look out for.

    I am not sure whether your GP would consider referring you to a dermatologist to try and get their opinion about what could be causing this rash.

    Try if you can not to look at the internet as it is so general and does not replace all your doctors years of experience.

    Hi there and thanks for posting

    As this thread was written several years ago i'm not sure the original poster is still active on here to answer your question.

    Any new rash that isn't going away should be checked out by a doctor so make an appointment when you can.

    Most rashes have a straightforward and simple cause but it is best to get it looked at just to be on the safe side. The GP can examine you and arrange more tests or a referral to a specialist clinic if needed.

    Try not to over think it for now but do get yourself checked out when you can.
