Hi and thanks for your post
It's very early days post your surgery and unfortunately it's not unusual for a seroma to form.
The surgeon was right in saying the fluid will eventually be reabsorbed by your body, but this may take some time. If it starts increasing in size and begins to get painful , do ring the breast care nurse as sometimes, the fluid can be withdrawn with a needle. However, it can reaccumulate and there is a school of thought that it may be best to leave it if it is not causing too many problems, other than fullness and an uncomfortable feeling.
If it starts to interfere with not being able to do your exercises, again do discuss this with the breast care nurse, as it's important you get full mobility with your arm. Hopefully, taking regular painkillers will help rather than waiting until it gets very sore ,as this will get on top of the pain and help you to continue with your exercises.
Hopefully people will get back to you with their own experiences, but you may well find that they vary widely .
I hope you continue to make a good recovery, but be easy on yourself as it's only a short time ago that you had your surgery, and it will take longer for the whole area to settle down and heal.
Do give us a ring if you would like to have a chat with one of us here on the helpline - the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
All the best
