DCIS Concern

Hi, I'm a 39 year old female with a strong history of Breast Cancer within my family (Aunties, Granparents, Cousins). I found a lump which I have been told this week is a 6mm cyst. I had a Mammogram, followed by an examination where although they could see the cyst on my mammogram they said they had concerns about my other breast from the Mammogram.

I had an ultrasound and the Consultant kept saying to the Nurse 'DCIS' and made reference to Calcifications. They did biopsies and inserted a clip and now I am waiting on my results. They said they are trying to 'build a picture' as I have a multi sepatated cyst and asymmetry. I am just worried given the words they use during my ultrasound and said they cannot say if it is cancer or not.

Has anyone had similar experience? I have looked up DCIS to find out more but now waiting on biopsies results for the next few weeks.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate this must be a worrying time for you.

The waiting for test results to come back can be an unsettling time but unfortunately until they do there is no one who will be able to say for sure what these things are likely to be.

The important thing is that this has been picked up on and is being looked into that will be able to confirm what is going on that will guide what treatment you may need.

I understand having had many family members with breast cancer you are expecting the worst but try not to over think things until you have the facts. Whilst other people who have been through similar may comment on here remember every story is different and the outcomes do vary.

You say you have already read up about DCIS and you can read more here on our web pages if you haven't already.

I hope your wait isn't too much longer and I wish you all the very best. Do get back if you need to or alternatively give one of the nurses a call on our helpline. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and were here week days 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi
