Smear test

I am 28 years old, I have a 4 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. My last cervical screening results showed I had the hpv virus. (1 year ago) I was due to go today for my next screening but I couldn't have it done as I'm bleeding slightly, which I have been for nearly 2 months! I could sleep for 12 hours and I still can't stay awake. I work 20-28 hours a week and have 2 children to look after and a house to maintain. (Although my house hasn't been maintained as it should due to a lack of energy) I also bruise really easily. I popped a spot on my leg and I have a bruise the size of a lemon. I have no energy. I just feel something isn't right. Can anyone advise please?? Xx

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It sounds like you're worried that your symptoms may be due to cervical cancer. However, it's a big leap to go from HPV to a cervical cancer, especially as a year ago there also weren't any cell changes.

Most people (around 80%) will have the HPV virus at one time in their lives, with the immune system usually dealing with it. It's good there were no abnormal cells seen, and so long as you attend for smears regularly, the screening programme is all about prevention, meaning that any change in cells(and this isn't cancer) will be dealt with before reaching a stage where cancer cells are seen.

It sounds like it's a busy time with two very young children and working , so being very tired may not be unusual. However, do go to the GP and discuss your symptoms to see if you may be anaemic, which may be causing your fatigue. It's important you are able to talk through any ongoing symptoms you are concerned about, like the bleeding, for which there can be a number of explanations.

I hope things start to calm down a bit soon and you are able to make an appointment

    All the best
