Recently found a lump. Waiting for my hospital appointment

Hey lovely's. Sorry to come to you about this but don’t really have anyone I can talk to about it. I don’t want my family to worry, so not telling them. I’ve found a lump in my breast. Just been drs, she said she don’t think it’s cancer but because I’m over 30 she is sending me for a scan to be sure. I’m so worried. Single mum to 7 children. I stopped breast feeding about 2 months ago. Since noticed this lump but because I've been poking and prodding it I've now noticed an itchy/ tingling sensation in my breast. I don't know what to think. This wait is going to be torture

  • Hi lovely,

Firstly try not to worry easier said than done I know and I have been where you are but not all lumps mean cancer! I've had quite a few friends been referred because they have found lumps or have seen other changes and it's turned out to be cysts  or fatty tissue!
    sending lots of love x

    Hi Kelbel,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear of your anxiety and want to assure you that we all get nervous at this stage. As Lauzlj has said, 'not all lumps mean cancer.' Many turn out to be benign cysts, fibrous or hormonal changes. It is also a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will receive a cancer diagnosis.

You will usually be seen at the clinic within 2 weeks of referral, although this can take a little longer in some areas due to Covid. You are doing the right thing in getting this checked out. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I can appreciate your worry about this breast lump but please do not assume you have cancer. As the girls here have said most lumps are not cancer and most people seen in the breast clinic and/or sent for a scan will find out they don't have it,  these are the facts.

You did the best thing in going to see your GP , hopefully you will not wait too long to get this checked out. However, as Jolamine says you might find you wait a bit longer.

Try to keep your mind on this as much as you can.

I hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Just wanted to update my post I went to the hospital yesterday the consultant could feel a lump but said he didn't think it was anything to worry about and I went for an ultrasound which showed there was nothing there apart from breast tissue, so sometimes we may have lumps that was not felt before but it really is nothing to worry about, I hope this finds reassurance for many people, I literally have obsessed over Google for the last week and it's been horrendous, I feel for every lady or man that goes through this, good luck to you all love Kelly  xx
