Sore near armpit

I have a sore patch near my left armpit and sure I can feel a lump,  I saw the GP yesterday who noticed its tender in that area and said it felt grainy (whatever that means)  There are no lumps or anything to worry about with my actual breasts though.

She didnt seem too worried and first said should take ibuprfofen, I mentioned I have private healthcare she then said she could do me a referal to see a breast surgeon so I could out my mind at rest .

has anyone else had similar ?

Thanks

Amanda

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

To begin with, I think that you should be reassured by your GP, as they are experienced in assessing lumps and skin issues.  Armpit skin/lump issues are not generally common symptoms of breast cancer. If your GP had been concerned, then she would have made an urgent referral to an NHS breast clinic. Ibuprofen would help with any inflammation in the area that might be causing soft tissue swelling, so it is worth trying for a week or two. You may have strained muscle or tissue in that area. Sometimes fluctuating hormone levels can cause some soft tissue swelling too.

As nurses, we cannot specifically advise you as to what you may wish to do. If you think that it would help put your mind to rest, and reduce worry by seeing a breast surgeon, then maybe discuss with your GP about arranging that.

    Best wishes,
