Mole excision

Hi

I had a mole removed just over 4 weeks ago but have not yet had my results. I chased the surgeon about 10 days ago to be told by the secretary that the results were back but the surgeon was not happy.

What does that mean!  Starting to get very stressed now. Is no news good news?

  • I waited 5wks for my results post surgery but that's because the multidisciplinary team had to meet twice regarding my case (group consisting of surgeon, dermatologist, pathologist, cancer nurse and a few others). Id suggest phoning the secretary again Monday. In my case my mole was melanoma and a further op was needed along with a lymph node biopsy. I have a faulty gene meaning I'm pre-disposed to melanoma. I start a course of immunotherapy treatment tomorrow but Im just glad I went to the doctors when I did as its been caught early and my oncologist is very positive the treatment will be enough to eradicate residual cells.   All the best with your results. The majority of times the mole is removed and its end of story. Hoping this will be the case for you.

  • Thankyou for your response. I am assuming my results are delayed due to meeting with the panel. I am hopeful the mole is benign and am sure I will hear soon. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis but yes catching it early it vital. I wish you a speedy recovery.
  • Hello and thanks for your post

It's possible that when the surgeon removed the mole he didn't get clear margins. This may mean that they have to remove more tissue to achieve this. But I can't be certain that this is the case until you get your biopsy results.

I know waiting when you are worried is stressful but hopefully you will no more soon. In the meantime, if you have not heard anything by next week I would contact the hospital again to get clarification on when you will receive your results.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
