Bowel cancer

Hi my names Carrie and im 17 years old and i think its been a week now since i first noticed mucus in my poo.

I must also note that i had a liquid yellow discharge sometimes coming from my backside and it had little drops of blood. But this has only happened once and was only a little blood. This has also happened to my older sister the once but she has IBS.

I researched and it said this could indicate bowel cancer and im really worried. i have no bowel pain and my bowel movements are all the same but the mucus in my stools are on and off.

The mucus in my stool went away for a day but then came back the day after when i ate a takeaway last night.

Is it early signs of bowel cancer or am i just worrying ?? please someone let me know please thank you !!

  • Hi Carrie and thanks for posting

Bowel cancer in someone of your age would be very unusual - the majority of bowel cancers occur in the over 50s age group. There are many different explanations other than cancer ,including, as your sister may know, IBS. Piles and constipation ,eating different foods or inflammatory bowels can also cause unusual poo or blood .

However, it's always best to talk things over with the GP for further advice if you remain concerned about your bowels , as the internet won't be able to diagnose, nor anyone here on the forum. They are very used to dealing with symptoms like these, so try not to feel awkward about it.

Most of the time it's nothing to be concerned about but if it carries on do just get checked out with the GP.

    All the best
