Worried about cervical biopsy results

Hi, I'm just looking for a bit of advice as I'm worried and confused about my cervical biopsy results. Firstly it started when I had an abnormal smear of moderate dyskaryosis. A few weeks later I had lletz treatment and the nurse said they managed to remove all the abnormal cells. Anyway, I got my biopsy results today (4 weeks after my lletz) which say I have CIN 3 and the histology report also shows cin involved in the endocervical margin. What does this mean? I'm so confused. I have another letter that came with my biopsy results saying I have to have a repeat lletz within the next few weeks. Why do I need it repeating again so soon if the cells were removed already? Can anyone please shed light on this. Thanks

  • Hi and thanks for your post

As Naomi has said in a previous post, results after histology can change - meaning that they can go down from a moderate dyskaryosis /CIN(or change) to a mild change but equally can go to a CIN 3/severe dyskaryosis. If the clinic felt that they may not have removed all the cells and that there may be some still in the endocervical margin, (the endocervix is the inner part or canal of the cervix that joins the vagina to the womb ) they may feel that some more LLetz treatment is needed.

This isn't that unusual as LLetz treatments sometimes may need to be repeated.

It can be easier talking things through on the phone, so do give us a ring -  the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm

Try and not worry too much about this as you are being well monitored and followed up, minimising the risk of any continuing problems.

    All the best
