Fast growing Breast Cancer

I had a breast cancer scare 5 years ago. I had all the tests; mammograms, scans & lots of biopsies on my left breast. At the time I was told it was just cysts & discharged. 2 years later I had a negative mammogram.

My next routine mammogram is due next month. However I felt a hard area in my left breast and have just come home from the breast clinic.

I have been advised that I probably have breast cancer as the mammogram & scan have shown a suspicious mass of about 5cm. I'm now waiting for biopsy results (they also took a sample from a lymph node under my armpit )

I'm worried sick.

Has anyone else experienced such a fast growing tumer. How come it didn't show up on my last mammograms? I've never missed one.

  • Hi.
I found lump in August ,mamogram ,ultrasound, ultrasound guided biopsy of lump and lymph. Titanium racer repeat mamogram and then saw doctor and toldon the same day i had a breast cancer-typical shape and dentisty. I had lumpectomy and sentinal nodes removed.

The results of the biopsy tell how rapid growth rate is and they grade it.

all depends on age, size what grade location lymph node involvement. Oestrogen and Her positive or negatives depend on your treatment Plan.

write Down any questions you may have for doctors.

take someone with you to get results -as often information is misheard.

keep us posted with your progress

  • Dear Effie,

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. It helps a lot to chat with & be advised by someone a little further along with their treatment. I can see we all have to lean to understand a lot of new terminology

I hope your surgery went well and wish you all the best with your chemo.

    Big hugs Lily

  • Hello Lilyanne

What a difficult time you are having.  But it is good to read that you went to get the lump you found checked out.  The breast screening programme is good at spotting breast cancer early, but sometimes breast cancers can develop in between regular screening appointments.  Try not to read too much into this, just focus on the fact that you did the right thing and got it checked out.  The medical team will now be able to assess the situation and if the biopsy shows you do have cancer see what treatment you need.  But as you went to the doctor after finding this rather than waiting for your next mammogram it is likely that if it is cancer they have caught it early.

I hope all goes well at your next appointment.
