Hello

Hi I'm 44

Mother of a 10 and 6 year old.  Periods on time, feel well, nothing major health wise has happened in my life thank G-d...

I came home Thursday from work feeling cold in my bones.  Had a bath and could not get warm. Friday at 1 am I woke with pain in my left side (Monday now).

I went to the toilet and I felt not right  dull achy pain.  I took tablets but could feel pressure on my left

I know I have an umbilical hernia and that also hurt on .y belly button and when I pressed my belly in it sounded squishy and watery.

Friday still in pain and took pain meds.

Sat woke up and went to a and e.  I live in Nottingham.

Had blood tests.  Don't know result.

BP fine she says

Found blood in my urine under a microscope

I had a CT scan on Saturday:

Found a 10 cm deemoid cyst and found a "spot' on my left kidney.

I now have an urgent CT scan this Wedneday under the urology dept.

I have hardly any pain now.  I haven't taken pain meds since Saturday pm.

What do you think this is?

I'm scared but practical.  I feel well.

I'm so happy I have no pain.  However I'm aware it's there and sensitive to touch but not needing actual pain killers.

If they found this "spot' but can't see what it is without another scan, how come they found a 10 cm cyst too?  What is this further scan?

Thanks for reading.

  • Hello Goldszmit and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about what has been happening. I am afraid I can't shed much light on this for you, I can only guess.

My guess is that the dermoid cyst had a characteristic appearance on the CT scan, but the spot on the kidney didn't, so it could be one of several things. I think perhaps this time they might want to use a dye called contrast before you have the CT scan which shows things up more clearly. You can read more about CT scans on the NHS website at this link

I don't know what this spot might be, but aside from cancer, other things like benign (non cancerous) tumours and cysts can be found on the kidney that need further assessment.

It sounds like whatever it is has bled a bit. This could have been what triggered the pain if a blood clot travelled down the tube from the kidney to the bladder. This sort of pain can be nasty.

For now there is no way of finding out any more, so inevitably this will be an unsettling time. Our usual advice to anyone waiting for test results and coping with uncertainty is not to spend too much time looking things up on line as there are no answers to be found there and it can take you round in circles. Most people are better off trying to divert themselves as much as they can.

I hope you find out more soon.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
