After prostrate

Hi I was wondering if anyone had hots sweats pain and tingling after treatment, I get a sort of electric shock feeling after the hotness, joints ache, really tired, I had external beam radiotherapy, 7 doses over two and a bit weeks, last dose on 7th June, I'm not sleeping well, have had to go back to work and obviously this is making me tired, but now I'm getting quite upset at how debilitating it is, want to do things but feel like I don't want to move as it hurts, then get upset as I am/was quite active

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am so sorry to hear about your symptoms and that they are continuing several months after your treatment.

I can also understand that not getting enough sleep on top of your side effects must be making life very difficult for you.

I am not sure whether you are still in touch with your oncology team or your prostate CNS (Cancer nurse Specialist) if you have one.  It is important to share the different symptoms that you are experiencing as there maybe something that can be prescribed to help manage how you are feeling. The GP may also be able to advise you on what may help.

We do have some information on our website about different coping techniques that may be useful and also some suggestions of different medications that may help manage some of your symptoms.

Some complimentary therapies such as acupuncture have been found to help with some people. Have a look at the information here

I am not sure whether you have been able to talk to HR at work about the very difficult time that you are having.  Is there some flexibility in the hours that you work or can you work more from home?

The charity ProstateUK has tips on managing fatigue. They offer a free fatigue service which you can book on line. Have a  look at their details here

We have some other links about living with prostate cancer which you might find helpful to look at here

You have posted in ask the nurses if you post in another section you may find that you may get more responses.

You may also find it useful to also post on the ProstateUK forum which you can see here

I am not sure whether you have a Maggie's nearby. They are wonderful cancer charities and offer a wide range of support. Have a look at their details here

I do hope that you mange to share your symptoms with one of the health professionals looking after you and they are able to offer some help.

I am sure that as time goes by your side effects will improve but I do hope that you find away to help manage them now.

If you would like to talk through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
