Worried

I'm trying to keep myself busy but seriously thinking the worse case scenario and even though I know I shouldn't I'm Googling and of course it's making me worse.

I've had heavy periods for a while but last month I had 2 in 1 month which was strange as I'm usually on the dot 28 days. Terrible pains in my lower left side of tummy that come and go but are worse when I've been on my feet for a long time and bloated tummy and gas.
My bloods showed a high CA125 level and also low iron but I was on a heavy period when my bloods were taken. I'm seeing the gynae consultant tomorrow for an appt but don't know what to expect and cannot concentrate on anything else.
Has anyone had similar problems?

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you are having and appreciate they must be a worry for you. Even if there are other people on the forum who have gone through something similar to you it is difficult to compare as the outcome could be very different from yours.

As I am sure you are aware from googling that symptoms including irregular or heavy bleeding and pain as well as a raised ca125 can be caused by a range of different conditions. Most of these won't be due to cancer but something much more harmless and straightforward. However symptoms like this do need investigating further just to be on the safe side and also to make sure no treatment is needed.

Try and take each step as it comes. It is good you are seeing the gynaecologist tomorrow so haven't too long to wait. I can't say exactly what will happen at the appointment but it is likely they will take a history of your symptoms and examine you. They will probably also want you to have an ultrasound, this is usually both an abdominal and internal scan what's called a transvaginal ultrasound to have a look at the female organs in the pelvis.

Usually the ultrasound will pick up on any unusual areas and from this they will be able to talk through the findings and what may need to happen next. Do ask them any questions and share any concerns you have.

Avoid searching anymore, google cannot diagnose you or tell you what is wrong so it is a matter of sitting tight for now and waiting to see what the doctor has to say. Do get back in touch if you need to or you are welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi
