It sounds like the GP has requested the ultrasound and possible biopsy of the lumps. A pathologist is a health professional who examines bodies and body tissues. They are also responsible for performing lab tests like taking biopsies and looking at the results in the pathology laboratory, so it may well be this.

It may depend on what the ultrasound shows, as if nothing of concern is picked up, they may not do a biopsy, but sometimes it's also done as a precaution if nothing else has been identified.

At this stage try and not read too much into this, as this isn't done because they think there is definitely something wrong, but just to get a bigger picture and to exclude certain different types of conditions.

If you remain worried, though difficult to get through sometimes to GPs, do try and give them a call for some more information about the request.

thanks for replying so quickly. That has helped put my kind at rest a bit. Hopefully it'll all be done and over quickly and there is nothing to worry about at all
