Has any body had a virginal ultrasound that so cancer
Hello Amanda_L and thanks for posting,
Vaginal ultrasounds scan are a good way to examine inside the pelvic area in women and are often used to get a picture of the ovaries, the womb and the neck of the womb (the cervix). But usually to diagnose (say what is the matter) cancer for sure, a tissue biopsy is necessary. Ultrasound scan results can show that something isn't right and point to the need for other tests including a biopsy to find out what is going on, but whatever it is might not be cancer.
For example, ultrasounds can detect how thick the womb lining is. Sometimes when the womb lining is thicker than usual it is because of cancer but there are other more common reasons for this to happen, so more tests would be needed to show what is the matter.
I hope this helps. Sometimes it is easier to talk things over. If you want to give us a call please do, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays, 9-5.
Best wishes,
Julia
It's come bk normal so if it was advanced they wud see it right
Hi again
If the results came back normal it meant that nothing unusual or different was seen. That would mean there were no signs of advanced cancer in the pelvic area as Julia described, or something would have shown up. No one can ever say 100% guaranteed with any test, but there would have been at least something to see if you are worried about advanced cancer in that area.
If you remain worried and you have some ongoing symptoms , do go back to the GP though.
It's good news that nothing of concern was picked up on the scan.
All the best
Wanda
