I found a lump inside my breast other week

So I found a lump in my breast last week and I was seen by a doctor who said I have an identical lump on my other breast same place and that it's nothing to worry about as it's probably been triggered by my depo injection I'm really concerned as they have just sent me on my way and told me there is nothing to worry about but I'm having slight pain in my breasts now and it's really worrying me as they didn't request scans or anything

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your concerns and that you don't feel that you have been properly followed up with scans.

Doctors have guidelines about when to refer women to breast clinics for further tests. It would be very unusual to have lumps in identical places in both breasts so it would be unlikely to be a cancer but of course we can't diagnose you.

Doctors are trained to look for worrying features when they perform a breast examination. Benign (not cancer) breast lumps are quite common. You can read more about these here.

Pain in breasts can also be common and is not usually associated with breast cancer. You can read more about this here

Your doctor seemed to think that the lumps may have been triggered by the depo injection which may be the case. Wait to see if things settle down in a couple of weeks and then if you remain concerned then do go back to your GP.

I can understand that it is a great support hearing what other members of the forum have to say but everyone's situation is slightly different so it is difficult to compare one person with another.

I do hope that this has helped reassure you.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
