Neck lump

Hi a few years ago I somehow managed to sleep on my inhaler and it left a large lump which was there for about 5 days was very sore. Since then I the same spot I've had a pea size lump can't really tell if it's movable...sometimes u can feel it more than other times. I went to the doctor when I first noticed and he didn't seem concerned...but I suffer with health anxiety and its really.triggered me off again is it worth going to the doctor about it again? It's located on the back of neck but towards the left side

  • Hi and thanks for posting

Finding new lumps can cause worry, though as you have had this for a few years now and you have had it checked as well, there is less likelihood of it being something of concern.

However, if you feel that it would put your mind at rest, do have another chat with the GP about your concerns.

You could ask what they think it might be - ? a fatty lump like a lipoma or some scarred tissue or anything else.

I hope you're also getting some support for your health anxiety as this must be difficult to cope with. There is some reading here about anxiety for your interest

  • Hi there Wanda,

I've ended up on this page after referring to Dr Google.

I suffer from really bad health anxiety; I went to the doctors on Tuesday for FOSSIT (feeling of something stuck in throat), I had a trainee doctor, he felt my glands etc, and put it down to either silent reflux or my anxiety, I suffer from panic attacks, so they put it down to that. Strangely, they didn't listen to my breathing or anything.

I forgot to show the doctor a lump directly below my gland on my windpipe, it is really small and I'm not sure if it moves, I'm not even sure if it is a lump or if it is part of my windpipe, but google has got me terrified. I can't tell if I'm getting unwell, or if it is anxiety, the trainee doctor said my throat looked red and dry.

I have the doctors on Monday for my Depot Provera injection, I'm going to mention it to the nurse, as I can't keep doing this to myself.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

Health anxiety is hard to deal with and I do hope that you're able to talk about this with the GP so they can support you and possibly direct you to some help for this.

By all means show the nurse the lump as they may be able to call in the GP to have a look at it. Do bear in mind though that not all lumps are to do with cancer and a red, dry throat might be down to some inflammation and nothing more serious. People often mistake their normal anatomy for a lump, so do talk it through with the GP.

I hope things settle down and you're able to have a good chat with them. It may be best in the meantime not to go on cancer forums if you have bad health anxiety, as this can only sometimes make things worse.

    All the very best
