Breast Lump

Hi I am new to the forum. I went to the Doctors on the 27/09/2021 with a lump on my right breast and they confirmed that the lump was hard and they would send an urgent referral for me to attend the Breast clinic for further investigations to be done. I phoned the appointment line again on Friday and they have told me it could be 8 weeks or more for me to get an appointment my anxiety is really bad over this and I don't know what to do to try and chase up this appointment as my breast is sore now as well. Can you please help me

  • Hello Trace5096 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are having to wait longer than usual for an urgent referral.

I'm afraid I am not sure how you can bring this appointment forward, but probably the best thing to do would be to talk to your GP and see if they can do anything or tell you more about your own situtaion.

You could also call the clinic and offer to take a last minute cancellation if you are easily able to get there at short notice.

I can appreciate that waiting isn't easy as it is hard not to worry about breast lumps, a lot of the time they don't turn out to be anything serious, but of course this doesn't mean they don't need to be properly checked out.

You could also try contacting the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital and ask if they can look into this on your behalf. The NHS website tells you want PALS do and how to find your nearest PALS office.

I'm sorry not to be able to suggest anything else. If you want to talk anything over, feel free to call us on Freephone 0808 800 4040 - we are here weekdays from 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
