Sore breast and no explanation.

Hi there ,

So wondering where to begin...

I had breast implants inserted in 2008. I didn't have any issues but in the past couple of years I started getting a mild pain in my right breast. The pain would come and go and I could feel it in my back.

The pain has been slowly getting worse. I have my first Covid jab which caused my right underarm to swell (  I had my injection in my right arm) I also started getting sore lumps that would come and go. Then had the second one and the pain is just getting worse (might have nothing to do with my jab but strange that I keep getting these sore lumps).

I have went to the doctor on numerous occasions and they just keep brushing me off. I'm terrified that I have cancer! I've been ready about BIA ALCL. Don't know where to go from here.

Please help.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the pain and swelling you have been having.

There can be many reasons for symptoms and most won't be the result of anything as serious as cancer but if they are ongoing I do suggest you go back and see your doctor. You can also request to see a different one if possible and explain your concerns to them, I am sure if they feel it is necessary they can refer you to the breast unit for further assessment.

Breast pain isn't a common symptom of breast cancer and is usually linked to hormonal changes just before a period, infection or nerve or muscle strain or injury, that can take a while to settle down. You can read more about this here.

It is known that the Covid vaccines can cause lymphadenopathy ( swollen lymph nodes) to occur in particular to the armpit after the injection has been given and this can happen after the 1st or 2nd ( or both) jabs have been given. So, this could be one reason for these swellings in your case.

As the pain is ongoing and is getting worse it is important to speak to your doctor and explain what you are most concerned about. Any referrals to other specialists do need to come from a GP and whilst some people do consider being seen privately this can be expensive and is not possible or necessary for everyone.

Avoid searching for answers on Google as it is unable to diagnose you and may lead you down the wrong path that can cause even more unnecessary worry.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi
