Dad

Hi

My dad has just had his first does of chemo , he has prostate cancer which has spread to his bones and lymph nodes.

He is really suffering with really bad stomach pains , sickness and very fatigued. I don't know how to ease the pain for him. I can see it in his face he's in real pain. What can i do  for him. ?

Could this pain be a build up of fluid ?

Please help

  • Hello Linda, and thank you for contacting us.

I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through with your dad, but it is going to be difficult for anyone to say what the pain is as we aren't part of the team looking after him.

Your dad may have a contact number for a specialist nurse (cns) or a Macmillan nurse who you could call, or maybe a number of where he goes for treatment. They know him and his medical history well so would have a better idea, and may want to bring him in to be assessed. there is medication to help with the sickness and any pain can also be controlled once they have been able to examine him.

The pain he is experiencing could be caused by many different things, this is why its best to chat with his own team.

Take care, and if you want to talk anything through further then you may find it helpful to chat things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
