Myeloma???

Hi

im posting to this as I'm absolutely terrified. I'm 27 years old with a 3 month old baby. Since baby was 6 weeks old I have started to feel unwell. Most recently it's been nausea and not feeling like eating (so not Like me) tingling and muscle twitches in legs, a mild sharp pain in chest and back. With other symptoms I have my doctor is convinced I have fibromyalgia but she is also testing me for myeloma. I am absolutely terrified as I know I have the symptoms. Has anyone got any positive advice? I've got to wait until Wednesday for blood test to be done then maybe a day or two for results!!!! It's making me feel so ill not knowing

thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your further post

I'm afraid we can never say what is the matter (diagnose) when someone has persisting symptoms. Only a doctor can make a medical assessment, so we always encourage people to see their GP which you have done when their symptoms are persisting.

It sounds like your doctor has taken your symptoms seriously as they have referred you to have blood tests and also to have a telephone consultation with an ENT specialist at the end of the month.

I think a lot of people with new or ongoing symptoms worry about cancer. But for most symptoms there are a lot of other potential explanations and usually it is more likely that something else is the matter. Myeloma is a very rare cancer and when it does occur it usually affects people over the age of 60

After having a baby it takes time for the body to adjust. It can be a really tough time and some women find that they can become more anxious after childbirth. I don't know if you feel this is relevant to you. But  if you do, probably the best thing to do is to talk it over with your GP when you get the chance.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi

thank you for your response. I suppose it's the waiting and not knowing. Yes my anxiety has definitely heightened since having a baby 100%. I suppose the symptoms of mild sharp pains in chest and back with nausea and also tingling in legs can mean many things, but as I saw on the big blood test she's doing for various things the word myeloma I'm terrified.

I did have a look at Dr Google which I know I shouldn't, I just can't help myself. I have seen that I don't fall into the bracket for it which should somewhat calm me down but it doesn't unfortunately. Thank you for replying to me

  • Hello. I've known 2 people with myeloma and neither had any of the symptoms you are suffering from. Both were over 70 too. One had terrible shoulder pain, the other started with bumps on her head. Symptoms you describe can be caused by things like anemia, vitamin d deficiency, fibromyalgia etc. Anxiety can also cause the most weird symptoms. My skin used to burn like I had sunburn and I would get muscle twitches lasting for days as well as Nausea and loss of appetite. You may have post natal depression? My mum lost 2 stone after me as she just couldn't eat. Pain in the chest etc can also be anxiety or acid reflux. I hope this reassures you x
