Post menopausal bleef

Hi all

Im 47 my last period was April 2019,,,,,i can't really say it's a bleed, more sludgy brownish discharge with a tint of blood, feels like a period and I feel bloated.... I saw my gp today and she referred me to have an ultrasound and said I should hear within 2 weeks,,,,,she wants to rule out womb cancer...... well that got me panicking immediately, can't relax now and the thoughts going through my head are horrendous, don't know how not to think about it?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you’re worried about your recent symptoms. The NHS have written some information about the possible causes of post menopausal bleeding and you can read more about this by clicking here.  They advise patients to see a specialist so I’m pleased that you have been referred to the hospital to have further tests.

Some women may have a condition called endometrial hyperplasia.  This is when the cells in the womb lining build up and the lining becomes thickened. Endometrial hyperplasia is a benign (non cancerous) condition, but if left untreated, it may slightly increase the risk of developing womb cancer.  But this increase in risk is generally quite low and most women with endometrial hyperplasia will not develop womb cancer. You can read more about this condition on the 'Patient' website and how it may be treated at this link

I know waiting when to find out more is stressful but hopefully you will know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you want to talk things through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
