Radiation dermatitis

So I'm 3.5 weeks post breast radiation and not had much reaction other than odd twinges but yesterday a 3 inch circular patch of itchy redness came up on the skin of my upper breast area. I've spoken to the rad team who have organised Flamozien which I pick up tomorrow but meantime can I use sudocrem on it to ease the itching this evening and tomorrow morning? It's super itchy and uncomfortable but I don't want to make it worse either . Many thanks

  • Good evening EdGirl21

I just wanted to pop and post a reply as unfortunately our team of nurses doesn't work outside office hours so you won't get a response from them until tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with some skin problems following your recent radiotherapy. It's good to know that you've already spoken to the team who have arranged some Flamazine for you to pick up tomorrow. If you're struggling with the itching and soreness this evening I'd suggest giving 111 a call to speak to someone for some advice on the best way you can manage this.

I do hope that things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi and thanks for your post

It's still very early days regarding recovery from radiotherapy treatment, especially as the radiotherapy continues to work on your body for about a month after the end of the treatment.

It's good that you were able to get in touch with your radiotherapy clinic, as  clinics will have varying suggestions regarding creams, and they will have all your medical details to hand.

Hopefully the flamazine will start to work soon , though it can sometimes take a few days for rashes to start clearing. If there is no improvement, do get back to them ,as it may need to be checked out and a different cream applied.

I hope it clears up soon for you

    All the best
