Repeat of post menopausal bleeding

Looking for advice...

3 months ago I had a period, 14 months after my last one. (I'm now 60). I had an internal and external scan, followed by an internal examination by a consultant at the hosand the conclusion was that nothing sinister was found and it was 'just one of those things'.

Over the last week I've had very painful nipples and today another period had started, with low back ache and a spell of the miseries. Should I return to the GP- who was very hard to get an appointment with even pre-Covid? And if I do, is there any test I should be asking for?

 Thanks!

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

While there is not necessarily anything serious going on I do think you do need to make an appointment with your GP. Your GP may offer a telephone appointment at first so do take it because if you are needed to be seen in the surgery that will be arranged.

Your GP will know if you need any particular tests, so do ask if you should be going for something like an ultrasound scan perhaps. However, while you can ask your doctor will only send you if it is needed.

I hope you will be okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thanks! This is what I was thinking too...
