I’m sorry you’re worried about some recent menopausal bleeding. The NHS have written some information about the possible causes of post menopausal bleeding and you can read more about this by clicking here. They advise patients to see a specialist so I’m pleased that you have been referred to the hospital and have had some tests, and you are now waiting to have a hysteroscopy. 

Some women may have a condition called endometrial hyperplasia.  This is when the cells in the womb lining build up and the lining becomes thickened. Endometrial hyperplasia is a benign (non cancerous) condition, but if left untreated, it may slightly increase the risk of developing womb cancer.  But this increase in risk is generally quite low and most women with endometrial hyperplasia will not develop womb cancer. Hi tracy, i have been through a simular situation as you, mine started 18 months ago, im also 57, i had a bleed and was sent for investigation, my biobsey was normal and lining was 7mm, i was discharged . 

6 months later i had another bleed, same investigations, lining was 24mm and 3 large polyps removed, the treatment plan was to take progestron to reverse the womb thickning, however i wasnt allowed to have the treatment due to having had er positve breast cancer, so i was monitored with further biobseys and i had to stop taking my meds that they believed caused it, and my last biobsey was great inproovement.

ironically I'm in exactly the same boat. Same age even and 5 years postmenopausal.

I am having a second Hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic tomorrow morning, basically a D&C, so a better biopsy sample can be obtained. First hysteroscopy was normal, but some cells indicating there was some inflammation present were found. So hence a further hysteroscopy being done in recommendation from the Pathologist. So I'm very grateful the Consultant is being thorough, and I'll be totally unaware of the procedure this time around! 
I'm feeling positive that things will be ok .

I made a list of jobs to keep me busy during the 'waiting time' ( which is the worst part I think) leading up to the procedure.

Wow our symptoms are the same.  I had my procedure and general anaesthetic is the way.. knocked out and know nothing until you're being woken .  I was told they removed a polyp and was able to take a biopsy.  I'm now waiting for results, which like you say is the hardest.  Good luck for tomorrow, it will soon be over and you'll be back in the comfort of your home xx. in a lot of pain on waking up after the anaesthetic. So grateful for having that. Definitely the way to go as you say.

Hi, apologies for the late reply. Really sorry to hear that you're still having a lot of pain and bleeding. I'm still waiting for my results,but I have received a T/C appt on 15th November for my results. My recovery wasn't that good from the general anaesthetic. It did knock me about for a couple of days, and to add to the pain I also had diarrhoea! Just have some spotting from the procedure, but no continuous bleeding like I had throughout August. Very strange!
Still the best way to have that procedure done though! Anyway keep in touch. Fingers crossed you'll get your results soon & some positive news about them too. X
