Ultrasound query

Hi, I had ultrasound at local hospital in august, results suspected sarcoma. GP referred me for urgent mri... was contacted by hospital who said I would have ultrasound and a GP can't refer for mri but if following ultrasound they think I need mri I'd then have mri... anyway they didn't they thought it's swollen lymph node. It's still there and I've started experiencing some pain around area of lump. GP was not happy that I hadn't had an mri and  GP reffferd again and still only got ultrasound they again didn't seem worried at all. I am debating whether to go private for mri would you suggest this a good idea.

thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we can't really be very directive, or suggest what might be needed. This does need to come from a medical doctor.

Going private is an option, and your GP would still need to refer you, so you would need a discussion with them about this.

Ultrasounds are reported on, at consultant level. So, it would have been reviewed at senior clinician level, and overall the chances of sarcoma are slim, as they are uncommon in the general population. Lymph nodes can cause discomfort if enlarged, and equally, can sometimes take quite some time to reduce down in size again. So, another option is to wait and see. But obviously your GP can comment more on this.

I do hope that you come to a conclusion soon,

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
