Worried about various symptoms

So it started when my baby was around 6 weeks old. He's now 15 weeks old.  It started with what felt like a lump in my throat when swallowing. This led into my whole throat feeling not sore but uncomfortable all the time, almost swollen inside. Then I started getting a few small lesions on my bottom lip that would come and go a few times. They would be sore if I had say salty food or an alcoholic drink, sip of partners  whiskey. If when holding my baby his head would headbutt my neck it would be sore. Then I completely lost my voice for a few days. When this all started I also had just a few times of the tip of my tongue feeling tingly. Along with this I’ve had this feeling I find very hard to explain and finding it very hard to live with, almost like a pressured feeling deep in my throat, behind nose and sometimes in my eyes. It’s almost like a shooting pain but it’s pressured. I also get buzzing in my ear and on a few occasions have experienced dizziness. I get regular headaches now too and I never normally have headaches. I had a regular dentist check up who said it could be a vitamin deficiency. Had bloods done everything come back fine apparently apart from my red blood cells are quite small or something? Anyway, I’ve had this now like I said since baby was 6 weeks old. Some days it’s worse than others but it’s always there. The doctor and nurse on two separate occasions said my throat looks very red inside. I’ve tried multivitamins, painkillers, changing my diet and antibiotics, nothing is clearing it up.

May be completely unrelated but at the same time as this I’ve been getting muscle twitches and spasms in my legs that again aren’t painful just uncomfortable. Just weird how all at the same time it started!

Feel fobbed off from doctors, have been told it's heartburn, anxiety, the leg twitches is damage from my epidural (had c section)

I do have anxiety yes, but I know this isn't anxiety. Feeling very worried about my symptoms. Has anyone had anything similar? I've got a telephone consultation with ENT at the end of the month. I'm only 27 with a new baby!

  • Hi and thanks for your post.

As you're posting on a cancer forum, I'm guessing that you think your symptoms may be due to cancer. The first year having a baby is hard as your body has changed - It can take up to a year after having had a baby for women's bodies to get back to a new normal - hormones, fatigue and  a general feeling of being very run down are all not uncommon. Some people will also find anxieties about their health increases as they now have a baby in their lives and the responsibilities that come with this.

It can be scary though when you have new symptoms and don't know what they are due to - but do remember that there can however, be explanations other than cancer for your symptoms.

Cancer in your age group, though it does happen , is not common. It's good that you have an appointment with the ENT specialist- after talking things through with you, they will be able to refer you for further tests if necessary ,so they can see what may be causing your symptoms.

Try and hold your nerve and not let your thoughts run away with you. Keep busy with your baby and I hope you manage to get some answers soon

    All the best
