Biopsy from colposcopy

Just received an outpatients appointment with gynaecology following colposcopy. Haven't received any results yet so I'm terrified. Would I have an appointment regardless of result ?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

Yes, it is possible that you have an appointment regardless of the results. An appointment to see a gynaecologist may also have been given as well as the colposcopy appointment, particularly if you had any symptoms, but not necessarily so. The best thing to do now is not read too much into it.

Hopefully you will be seen soon and your situation will be much clearer.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Just had cin3 high grade changes confirmed . Terrified doesn't come close.

  • Hello and thanks for getting back

Firstly please try not to panic. Remember screening programme is all about prevention by picking up abnormal cells that can either be treated or monitored until they return to normal.

CIN 3 stands for cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia that you can read more about here and confirms the type and severity of the abnormal cells are in the cervix but to say CIN are not cancer but rather pre cancerous cells that if left may over time can develop into a cancer but this often takes many many years to happen. By removing the CIN with a treatment like a LLETZ procedure here means that this can be prevented and then the person will be followed up to make sure no further monitoring is needed and they can then be returned to the regular screening programme.

I assume you have a follow up appointment so do talk this through when you get the chance so they can explain what needs to happen next. As Caroline said you are also welcome to call our nurse helpline on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
