Breast lump - 22yo

Hello. I am 22 years old and found a lump in my breast towards the end of last month. I haven't been seen in person about it or received anything from the urgent referral yet as it's only been about nine days and they say it can take about 14. I was just wondering if maybe somebody else has or has had the same as me as I've not been able to find anything online about shapes/sizes/physical signs related to breast lumps like mine.

It is a very hard lump with no give when pressed, not painful, a very odd shape that I can best describe as a heart shaped ballon that's been blown up too much haha. It's sort of round but got three edges that stick out more than the rest into soft points, hence the heart balloon analogy, however it also has a "tail" that is attached to the base of it on the lower right side that is very lumpy and swollen. My breast is swollen and my nipple is inverted (I've always had inverted nipples but now my left one is much more sunken in than my right one) and my nipple has this like bumpy texture to it like it's cold and got goosebumps or something.

If anybody knows anything about this and can hopefully put my mind to some rest then that would be really appreciated and if anybody has information on what it could be that would also help as then I can do some more looking into it.

Thank you in advance :)

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I can appreciate you are worried about your breast and waiting to be seen about it is a particularly difficult time for many people. However, trying to find out what it is by comparing your breast lump with other peoples breast lumps is not going to help and may cause you even more concern. I am afraid that that no one here can tell you what is the matter.

Remember that having a cancer is uncommon in your age group, including breast cancer.

Be reassured that you have been referred to a breast clinic so in the meantime you might find trying to take your mind of this as much as you can by keeping busy and focusing on other things going on in your life helps. Do also talk with close family members and friends about your worry and by all means give us a call.

I hope you do not have to wait much longer and that you will be okay.

The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hello and thank you for your response. I think you have misread or miss understood what I am asking here. I am not asking for comparisons or help in diagnosing what it is. I am simply asking for good recourses or any helpful first hand tips etc in the different shapes and sizes as I I stated above I cannot find this type of information anywhere online and feel it would be really helpful to see/know.

  • Hello, and thank you for getting back to us.

I'm sorry if you feel my colleague misread you enquiry, but we, nor anybody on this forum, is able to comment on or give first hand tips as to why your breast is as it is.

There are also no resources, articles or research about the different shapes and sizes that can help you.

A specialist doctor in a breast clinic is the only person who will be able to thoroughly physically examine and assess you, which is why this information specifically is not online. Speaking to a doctor when anyone notices something different or unusual for them is the only way of getting these changes properly checked out.

I've placed here a link to what you can expect when you attend the breast clinic.

Take care of yourself, and I hope that you get your appointment through soon.

    Sarah.
