Raised dimer levels and ct scan showed nodules on lungs

I had a suspected pe ( blood clot on lung) in Thursday

Had bloods done slight infection marker and higher than average dimer levels ( test that's level of blood clotting in bed) it was 688.

So had blood thinner injection ASAP then given one to administer first thing before my urgent ct scan in eve am.

So had cut scan didn't show any evidence of any clots but showed nodules on my lungs.

Told to book in with my go to get refered and have a telephone consultation tomorrow morning.

Im petrified my high levels indicate cancer as had no surgery recently and no other reason why my levels are higher?

What questions should I ask my gp and what tests can I ask for to rule out cancer of the lungs and I have nodules on my womb after  as I have extensive scare tissue from having 3 c sections .

could it all be connected ?

Trying to keep positive and stay upbeat hoping it's just scar tissue on my lungs  from when I had Covid back on August I also have asthma so could be that but my mind is doing overtime subconsciously.

Thankyou for your time .

Love to all worrying ️

  • Hi and thanks for the post

It sounds like you've been on a bit of a rollercoaster recently and can imagine it's been a worrying time.

It's not unusual to get incidental findings like nodules on lungs or liver when a scan or x ray is being done for another complaint. In many cases these won't necessarily cause a problem or be of concern, but they will need investigation to ensure that the specialists get a good look at them to see exactly what they are.

There are reasons other than cancer for a higher d- dimer level, but no one will be able to say for sure what may have caused the higher than normal level without further tests. Studies have shown that covid can cause increased levels so it may be a possible explanation.

The GP will refer to a respiratory consultant and they will decide what further tests may be necessary to investigate the nodules. They may include chest x rays or further scans with or without biopsy but as everyone is different, I can't really say.

The nodules on your womb don't really sound as if they may be connected, but it it's important to pass on all information to the specialist, whether you think it's relevant or not.

Try and not overthink things too much at this stage though I know that's easy to say and difficult to do.
